Real Kingsley Pines summer camp wedding

A while back I posted some iPhone photos I took at a wedding I officiated at Kingsley Pines in Raymond, Maine. This wedding was a highlight of my summer for both the sweet couple, Amy and Dan, as well as the amazing staff at the camp. The weather was also beautiful and because I spent Friday night in one of the cabins I spent the morning on wedding day enjoying the camp (read that as: lounging in an Adirondack chair on the beach). Now we can relive that wedding with the gorgeous professional photos from Bill Marshall Photography. Enjoy!

5 reasons to have an unplugged ceremony

I recently officiated a wedding where the guests were asked to turn off all devices during the ceremony. I supported the idea of unplugged weddings before this, but not until I experienced it first-hand did I understand the power of guests putting down the camera during the wedding ceremony. Everyone focused their energy and attention on the bride and groom. Seeing all those faces, which are normally hidden behind camera screens, brought such life to the ceremony. It truly felt like each person there was a witness, which is exactly why they were invited in the first place.

Just in case you needed them, here are the top five reasons to have an unplugged ceremony:

  1. Guests' total attention and focus on the ceremony.
  2. Photographers will get beautiful shots without having to crop out phones.
  3. Processional shots not ruined by guests leaning into the aisle.
  4. Energy and mood of the ceremony improved (trust me on this one!).
  5. Smiling faces of your friends and family looking up you.

At the end of the ceremony, I announced that it was time for everyone to take out their cameras, and start taking photos. We gave the guests time to get a few shots. It worked so well! The photo below is from the photo opp.

Laughter, beer and a broken glass | Maine wedding officiant

You will see from the photos that this real Maine wedding that I officiated that they mixed sentimentality with humor and fun. Check out the one shot of me in mid-belly laugh! Kalyn and Ben chose to drink beer during their ceremony (rather than the traditional wine ceremony) and they included one of my favorite symbols of love: the breaking of the glass. What a perfect wedding day it was!

I posted the photos I took at this wedding, but the ones here are courtesy of Greta Tucker Photography. Greta happens to be one of my Talented Vendors, and I would like to add to my already rave review of her by saying that she's the kindest, sweetest, warmest professional you may ever work with. On wedding day she is "on" and gets every shot. She barely stops moving and the quality (and quantity) of the photos she takes proves it. Thanks, Greta, for letting me post these photos!

Camden Maine Wedding Officiant in Action

Thanks to some very kind and generous wedding photographers, you get to see what I look like when I'm officiating weddings. Without these wonderful vendor friends I wouldn't have anything to show you, so please visit their websites and Facebook pages as a way of saying "Thanks!"

These photos are all courtesy of Closer North Photography. Erica and Jordan capture beautiful moments, as you'll see. You can also check out my photos from this wedding.

Real Maine Riverside Wedding

Hey guys! Check out the professional photos from Sarah and Josef's wedding. Dana and Zak from Henry + Mac Photography are two of my favorite wedding photographers to work with! They're easy to work with meaning they let you just be you and capture those moments without you even noticing. The move around constantly and this allows them to take freakin' incredible shots. Just look at these from the ceremony.

I feel so lucky when wedding photographers share their images with me. It's only due to their kindness that I can show you what I look like in action. Thank you, Dana and Zak for sharing these beautiful images with all of us!

A Little Wedding

My dear friend Erin Little of A Love Supreme Photography got married this year. I officiated her wedding which took place at the Frontier Cafe in Brunswick, Maine. Erin was smart and hired Henry + Mac Photography to document her day. Dana and Zak are incredibly creative and talented photographers who are a blast to work with. I recommend them to anyone looking for photos that you'll treasure for ever. Duh, that's everyone!

Here are their photos of Erin's wedding ceremony.

Fun in Friendship Maine

Do you remember Katie and Jason's Friendship, Maine wedding? Well, these two sweeties are now dear friends. I spent an awesome three days with them at the wedding I officiated in Colorado Springs and they promised to get in touch on their next trip to Maine. They kept their promise and recently invited Nick and me out to Friendship, Maine for an evening of fun!

We got to do something that only people who have homes in the Friendship area get to do: boat out to Ram Island and enjoy appetizers, cocktails and dinner, and then make it home before the sun sets. The fun didn't stop there, just my camera's ability to capture low-light images. We got back to the log cabin and watched the Friendship Days fireworks from their dock. Then we walked over to a neighbor's home to listen to Scott Thompson play some bluesy-country tunes. His voice is incredible! We went to bed tired and happy.

Did I happen to mention that Maine's motto is "Vacationland?"
