First of all, I'm totally NOT getting paid by SpeechBooth to promote their product; I just happen to think it's an incredible idea. AND secondly, the founder of the company was a groomsmen at a wedding I officiated. Cool, right?!
Let's find out what co-founder, Wil Lockman, has to say about SpeechBooth.
Where did you get the idea for the SpeechBooth business?
Everyone gets to that point in their life where they have friends, family, and colleagues getting married at the same time. After attending almost 10 weddings last year, and realizing that there was no great way for anyone to leave a lasting message for the couple, my co-founder and I decided to develop something. What everyone (who was getting married) kept telling us was they were so frantic during their reception making sure they said hello to everyone that they couldn't really remember any of their conversations. SpeechBooth we think solves this.
What makes it different from a photo booth?
We definitely like to think of ourselves as wedding-tech and not related to any pre-existing photo or "video booths". There are a few main things that make us different. 1.) The unit is small and can be shipped to any location in the US. 2.) It is self sufficient, and does not require an attendant to operate, drastically cutting the cost to rent ($499). 3.) It is not a cumbersome bulky booth that can ruin the aesthetic of a wedding for the couple. Also, our videos are professionally edited and hosted online for our new couple to enjoy/share and download to keep forever. Traditional video booths are regional, requiring someone to come set them up, and the videos are often provided on a DVD. A borderline dead technology.
Do the speeches get edited? Who does the editing?
Yes, the screen comes customized with the couple's names. Guests leaving a speech can choose to leave a message for either one, or both. On the backend, we have a team of professional editors who craft the raw footage into a compilation video for the couple to enjoy. We also provide the individual speeches in thumbnails so you can view specific ones without watching the whole thing.
Do you have to be tech savvy to run it?
Nope! One of our goals in developing the software was to make it easy to use. At a wedding, you'll have everyone from young children to grandparents wanting to leave a speech so we made it extremely user friendly. No more than two buttons on the screen at a time, and very easy to navigate.
You're a pretty new business, what kind of feedback are you getting?
We have had a fantastic response so far, almost overwhelming! We're different, and I think people see that. SpeechBooth was really something that was missing in the wedding market. Everyone knows about photo booths, but those are often silly, funny photos left by friends. We wanted everyone to be able to leave a lasting message that the couple can go back and watch in 5, 10, or 15 years and re-live their big day. We have had many long-time photographers compliment us on the idea, and are recommending it to their clients. We have also developed a number of relationships with wedding and event planners who we work with on a partnership basis.
Anything else you want to tell us about SpeechBooth?
Just that we think its something people will really enjoy. We are excited to offer something to people who want a more affordable, and fresh twist to wedding media!
Oh why, oh why didn't SpeechBooth exist when I got married?! I'm bummed I missed out and will never get the chance to watch videos of our guests wishing us well. I have my memories of the day, sure, but I'd love to be able to go back and hear what our guests had to say. Don't miss a chance to capture these moments!
