The first gay wedding on Monhegan Island, Maine officiated by A Sweet Start, a Maine wedding officiant.
I had the distinct honor and privilege of officiating the first gay wedding on Monhegan Island off the coast of Maine.
John and Larry came all the way from Mississippi just to get married on this tiny island. Monhegan has a year-round population of about 60 people so, yeah, everyone knew who they were before they even arrived. The wedding took place in a sweet chapel which has no electricity and just a handful of pews. Everything about this wedding was perfect, from the location to the weather to the ceremony to the couple; It could not have been more emotional, sweet, loving, funny, and surprising (John serenaded Larry in the middle of the ceremony!).
Here are just a few of the photos from this wonderful July wedding day. Congratulations to John and Larry for bringing equality and love to Monhegan, Maine!
