Congratulations, you’re married! If you just got married and you want to get a copy of your certified Maine marriage license you MUST request one. You do not automatically receive a copy of your marriage license. The fee to obtain a copy of your marriage license is $15 ( $6 for each additional copy) and you have a few choices of how you request the certified document.

How to obtain a copy of your Maine marriage license

  1. Contact the town or city that issued your marriage license to request a certified copy [recommended]

  2. Request a copy online and pay by credit card (extra fee) using VitalCheckExpress

  3. Make a request in writing (see instructions below). Mail request, check and a self-addressed stamped #10 envelope to:

instructions for fulfilling your request by mail:

  1. Name of partner 1 (use maiden name, if applicable)

  2. Name of partner 2 (use maiden name, if applicable)

  3. Date of marriage

  4. Name of city/town the marriage occurred in

  5. A daytime telephone number

  6. Make check payable to: “Treasurer – State of Maine”

  7. Include a photocopy of your ID (Picture I.D. requirement)
