i’m gonna jump on the vintage, DIY, rustic, barn-inspired bandwagon for a moment and give you some guidance on where you can get some amazingly awesome antique wedding decorations (or gifts?!) in the midcoast maine area (which is roughly the area from brunswick to belfast – IMO).

i was inspired to write this post because last weekend i attended what is touted as the largest antiques fair in maine, and it was incredible! if your wedding is happening in august, plan on going. you could make it part of the pre-wedding fun!

here are a few other places to check out antiques in my area (in order of how much i like them).

elmer’s barn | coopers mills maine | there are no words to adequately describe this place. there are three (or 4?) floors packed full of every thing you can possible imagine. the first floor is scary (think hoarders) but the second floor is neatly organized with different booths. there are a million chairs, a thousand old wooden trunks, a gajillion plates and cups and vases and…i’m barely exaggerating!

second hand etc. | edgecomb maine | this is my favorite shop. they have a great collection of items ranging over many different periods (can you tell i know nothing about real antiques?). the front of the store is smaller items (dishes, collectibles, etc.), but they also have some large salvage items out back. the building behind the maine building has two floors filled with furniture in mostly really good condition and reasonably priced.

cabot mill antiques | brunswick maine | this place is awesome! it’s 16,000 sq ft of antique goodness. with 160 dealers you’ve got your choice of items. you might have trouble finding a steal, but if you’re ok with spending on quality items, this is your place.

nobleboro antique exchange | nobleboro maine | in my opinion this is a higher-end dealer showcase. they have more than 70 dealers and it feels like an equal number of rooms. lots of art and fancy glass stuff. it’s a big blue house right on route one so it’s also really convenient.

avalon antiques mall | wiscasset maine | again, they’re right on the highway so their visible and convenient. they have three floors and over 100 dealer stalls. i’ve found some reasonably priced items and some totally outrageously priced items. guess it depends on the dealer.

the maine antiques dealer association has an annual show in my town every year. i haven’t been yet but i keep meaning to go. happy antiquing!
