Okay, if you’re looking for a sweet, tucked-away place to get married you can’t do better than Bailey Island. It’s at the tip of the Harpswell peninsula about 25 minutes from Cooks Corner in Brunswick, Maine. My husband and I went for a drive down to the island, which is attached to the mainland by the most amazing crib-stone bridge. The old homes ooze charm and the windy roads slow you way down. Every house down there seems to have an epic view, so if you’re looking for rental I’m sure you can’t go wrong.
Check out the Bailey Island Library Hall as a potential wedding reception venue. It looks so beautiful with hardwood floors and a lovely, light interior. contact Diane Gagne for more information (207) 833-6305.
The cool thing about this library is that it has tons of history. Carl Jung gave his first seminar in the US in this hall. It was built in 1911 so it has a past. This is a good article about the background of the hall, if you’re into that sort of thing.
UPDATE: I performed a wedding at the Bailey Island Library and it is indeed a cozy, charming spot with crown moulding and high ceilings and books behind glass cabinets. So lovely! Here are a few more photos from the same wedding.
