why the back of the wedding dress is so important

I was approached by Simply Bridal about them doing a guest post on my blog. I get many of these requests and normally I just ignore them because they're not right for my site. But when I got this request and checked out Simply Bridal's website I was immediately convinced that they would be a good fit for the A Sweet Start blog. The dresses are great and reasonably priced (from less than $100 to about $700). There are literally hundreds of dresses to choose from and my readers get a 15% off discount code! So here is the wise wisdom from the ladies at Simply Bridal about why the back of the wedding dress is so important. I agree with everything they're saying!

This year, bridal designers have taken notice of the importance of the back of a wedding dress.  Most brides tend to choose their wedding dresses based on how they look when standing directly in front of a mirror, but the back of the dress is what guests will see during the ceremony.  Below are a few ways that designers are bringing attention to the backs of this year's brides.

Low Cut
One of this year's hottest bridal trends is a low-cut back.  Often extending all the way to the lower back, this look is daring and sexy.  This style of dress tends to be relatively high-cut in the front, making the back of the dress even more dramatic and eye-catching.

Illusion
An illusion back has a low-cut back, but the exposed skin is covered by a sheer fabric.  This can be applied to low-cut styles to add a bit more modesty, or can be taken all the way up to the neckline on dresses with higher-cut backs.  Illusion backs are usually embellished with embroidery, satin-covered buttons, and other delicate details.

Geometric Details
Another trend that has been spotted on the runways combines a low-cut back with geometric details.  Asymmetrical straps, cuts, and angles create interest, and are sometimes covered with rhinestones (another big bridal trend this year) to make the back of the dress even more exciting.

Skirts and Trains
A train adds interest to the back of any wedding dress, but can also scale the dress upwards in terms of formality.  Trains are always in style, but many designers are opting to add extra details to the back of the skirt, rather than adding a train.  Large ruffles, bows, and embroidery are embellishing the skirts of this year's bridal gowns.

Whether you decide to incorporate any of these back-of-the-dress trends into your wedding day look or not, don't ignore the back of your gown.  The back of your dress will have a captive audience while you say your vows, so it is a perfect opportunity to show off a sexy back and gorgeous details.
